Young Designer Awards - Fashion Category 2008

Helen created what the judges described as “an exceptional piece of design”, centred around 1880's fashion, the Maori legends, the taniwha, and European and Maori relations. The final garment incorporated a bodysuit with a Maori tattoo embellished on it, blue raffia corset, with shell embellishment, weaved collar and bustle, plus full skirt with hooping and looped fibres to create an underskirt. Helen also achieved first place in the Intermediate Wearable Arts section.
